Improving water quality with water-sensitive design
About water-sensitive design
Water pollution in the city centre can be addressed by water-sensitive design. This ensures that polluted city centre stormwater runoff is treated as much as possible before it flows into waterways and the harbour.
Components of water-sensitive design can include:
- permeable paving
- rain gardens
- roadside swales
- other methods of retaining rainwater at source, allowing it to settle and be filtered.
Watercare Ltd has a large ongoing investment in wastewater/stormwater separation in parts of the central city.
